Workshop
Interdisciplinary Magnetism Workshop
Over fifty early-career researchers from more than a dozen departments joined a one-day workshop on magnetism, exchanging ideas and building new interdisciplinary links. The event fostered collaboration across fields, inspiring future joint projects and a shared strategy to strengthen magnetic research at Birmingham.
Outreach
Sharing Magnetism with the Public
Early Career Researchers from across disciplines collaborated to create engaging lectures, activities, and demonstrations that bring the science of magnetism to the public. Through festivals, school visits, and community events, their work has inspired audiences and strengthened the University’s culture of public engagement.
Equipment Sharing
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance at Chemistry
In-situ alloying and 3d printing of magnetic materials and superconductors at Metallurgy and Materials Science
Transcranial magnetic stimulation at Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences
Project Development
Magnetic Birmingham has grown through collaboration, creativity, and cross-disciplinary exchange.
From research interviews to workshops and outreach programmes, the project has connected scientists from across the University to explore magnetism — from atomic interactions to planetary phenomena.By translating complex research into shared experiences, Magnetic Birmingham has built a platform that celebrates the diversity of magnetic science and inspires new collaborations.
Looking ahead, the project will continue to expand these connections — developing new activities, digital resources, and partnerships that bring magnetic research even closer to the public.
